Building Community

The first New Testament church we read about in the book of Acts was a community of believers with a unity of goals. These people came together daily in homes and the Temple to fellowship and praise God. This early church had a great understanding of community. They ate together, prayed together, they helped others when they were down and out. They had understanding of weeping with the sad and rejoicing with the glad. Perhaps, we are just too busy today to ever come back to that place in life but one this is sure, we need one another. Churches are meeting less and less. Sunday nights and in many cases Sunday School is a thing of the past. Many people get 2 hours of church time per week and go back to our daily lives. We spend much more time with fellow sports parents or coworkers than with brothers and sisters in Christ. I said all of that to remind you we need to build community.

Over the next few weeks I will be discussing this subject. We here at the Sermon Network are working to help our Network users build community. We have established a FaceBook group, a place for our members to come together and share ideas, troubles, or needs with fellow Christians. Right now we have just a handful of members in this group and only 1 discussion topic going but we want that to change. We want to help facilitate relationships and build community among like minded people. We are all out for the same cause, to evangelize the world for Jesus Christ. We have more than 9,000 ministries now sharing on the Sermon Network! What a support group that can be. We obviously don't intend for this group to become a place for counseling but for sharing of solutions and ideas. Maybe you need help in building your media ministry, there are others in our community who have already found the answer and they need a place to share. Right now we are soliciting ideas for better using the Sermon Player but we don't wish to limit the scope of this community.

I want to invite you to join our FaceBook group and begin to help us build our community. If you don't have a FaceBook account maybe it's time to start one. In the coming days I will be posting about the need for the church to use Social Networking sites to strengthen and build community.

Acts 2:42
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper[i]), and to prayer.

Acts 2:46-47
46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity[j]—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Blessings,
Larry
